Go to your download location (Default: Downloads or Desktop) with the other Explorer window to find the abc files you downloaded. Drag them to the songs folder in the first window. Open Starbound, go to your game, and equip the instrument of your choice. Left click and select all of the brand new songs that you just installed! Starbound Music & Soundtrack. Space exploration is at your fingertips in this sandbox adventure game. Traverse an entire universe in your own ship and scavenge whatever you discover. Craft your own kingdom, complete quests for extraterrestrials, and go planet-hopping in the infinite world of Starbound. The Starbound soundtrack was composed.
Recently, there has been some unofficial leaks and some official announcements regarding music in Starbound. And I thought I’d give a summation surrounding those happenings here for easy digestion.
First, it seems some internet sleuths have managed to locate one of our musician’s soundcloud that contained some of the music that has been written thus far. It’s true, this is Starbound music. However, not all of these tracks are completely finished and produced, and may not represent finished work. I think that the music still sounds excellent and that Curtis did an awesome job on it. You can find the music at his Soundcloud if you want some mild spoilers.
Next, I’m proud to announce that we have a few more talented musicians joining our team. Both Radiation and Solatrus have generously agreed to help us with music for Starbound. You may know them from the Homestuck Music Team. If you don’t, I highly recommend checking out their bandcamp. Awesome music awaits you there.
As far as other news, keep an eye on our IRC as well as the forums and Tiy’s twitter. Things usually hit there before someone gets around to making a write up for the website. Exciting times up in here.

Music is a game mechanic that allows the player to play songs using instruments. Songs can be imported into the game using ABC notation. This allows players the ability to share songs, or search for songs others have composed online.
Starbound Save Download
Instrument usage has no effect on ongoing game music; however, notes made by instruments are categorized as sound effects rather than as music, so muting the game's music does not mute music produced by instruments.
Instruments
Instruments are items that can be used to play songs. They produce unique sounds when played, and the same song can be played using different instruments. Some songs may even be intended to be played on a specific instrument. There are a large number of different varieties of instruments (listed below). Tiy stated in a stream that they intend to give each race a unique instrument as well.
Instruments can be acquired through a variety of means. Tenants have a 0.5% chance of giving an instrument as a gift, chests have around a 1% chance of containing an instrument, quests have a 3% to 5% chance, challenge rooms have around a 5% chance, and the rare golden chests in the fossils mini-game have a 10% chance of containing an instrument.
In multiplayer, different players can play different instruments together to play songs as a band.

Songs need to be added to the game directory. Place them in the folder path:
Starbound uses .abc files to play music. Search online for .abc compositions to add in game!
